My flight landed just after 1pm in Puerto Vallarta and I decided to rent a jeep from Avis to drive the coastal road north to Riviera Nayarit. Just before 3pm I arrived at my first destination – The Four Seasons Resort Punta Mita.

On the nine-night adventure I started with my first on the right foot. An impressive property, amazing views, and top-notch service made for a wonderful experience. I still find myself talking about the service, especially the poolside sunglasses cleaning. That’s stay luxurious.
After a quick property tour, dinner was scheduled for Bahia, the seafood-centric beachfront grill. We started with specialty cocktails, the tasty grilled guacamole and the Concha a la Macho. Then before the main dishes arrived (I ordered the catch of the day – delicious) I excused myself. I grabbed my camera to head down to the water’s edge to capture the moment.
With the trip to Mexico’s west coast, I planned to catch as many sunsets as possible. And again, it started on the right foot. Listening to the crashing waves on the volcanic rocks, I snapped this image.

I returned for the main course and dessert. The delightful conversation continued and we discussed photography, travel destinations, and Four Seasons properties. I left impressed with how critical location is to the brand. It must be perfect. In fact, the owners of the Four Seasons hand selected the location when approached to build a resort at Punta Mita. As I sat and looked at the horizon, sipping my dessert wine, I thought somebody envisioned someone having this exact moment. Perfection, indeed.
They chose wisely. Very wisely. Happy Sunset Sunday.
