Recently, I enjoyed a day at the Key Largo Hilton’s Beach and also took to the sky to parasail the Upper Florida Keys, but I didn’t watch the sunset from the property. No, I left before the sun dipped into the sea, yet I knew it might be special. So one evening when driving down US-1, the Overseas Highway, I made it a point to stop in for a sunset cocktail.
I’ve watched multiple sunsets in Key Largo, including ones at Bayside Grille, Caribbean Club, and others, but I was curious how all the guests of the Hilton hotel see and enjoy the sunset. And was it a party? I parked my car walked through the lobby and headed down to the beach bar. I don’t think many outsiders (non hotel guests) do this, but I wanted a cocktail for the sunset. I took my $8 dollar rum punch (including tip) and made my way to the long pier.
There I sipped my cocktail and sat down to watch the sunset. I noticed a few guests also enjoying the pier, but wondered why it wasn’t packed, I guess most watch it from their balcony – I’ll need to do that one-day and book a stay.
The sun dipped faster than I could finish my cocktail, but no matter, the drink was certainly a worthy purchase price for admission for the show. I took a final sip and toasted to the sunset. Ah, life is good in the Florida Keys. Happy Sunset Sunday.
Stay adventurous, Craig
