The Tranquillo Rural Heart of Baja California, Mexico

Though Baja California boasts urban centers Tijuana and Ensenada as up-and-coming culinary capitals, ranches, farms, vineyards and open spaces define most of the state’s actual landscape. I was in Ojos Negros recently touring a dairy farm and cheese cellar when I came upon these birds having a siesta, Baja style.

Best Mexico Travel Tip

There are plenty of things to to do in Baja California. Valle de Guadalupe is one of the largest wine-producing regions in Latin America – providing 90% of the stuff consumed in Mexico. Take a tasting tour to enjoy regional blends and imaginative cuisine. The “Valle” has at least 50 restaurants helmed by top chefs offering rustic, creative and delicious dishes.

Mexico Location: Where is Baja California?

The  state claims the top of the Baja peninsula and is situated between the waters of the Pacific Ocean and the Sea of Cortez. With 1.3 million people, Tijuana is the state’s largest city.
