The schooner “True Love” named from its Hollywood fame offered a sunset sail on Seneca Lake from just behind my hotel the Watkins Glen Harbor Hotel. The couple I interviewed at Dr. Frank’s Winery for my podcast on the Finger Lakes told me all about it, but my time out on the water, one of the top 5 must do activities in the Finger Lakes, was slated for the next day at noon. But I thought I’d still return to the lakefront to watch the sunset on Seneca Lake and hopefully one with the Schooner in view (the photo).
After hustling back from a delicious meal and Nickel’s Pit BBQ I returned to the hotel to quickly grab my dSLR camera with the sky already bursting with colors. Did I miss it? In a world of rest and relaxation, lake life in Watkins Glen New York, I needed to put a little bit of New York style hustle navigating through the hotel and then out the back to the pier to capture the moment. Of course, it would not be my first time handling the race against the setting sun in order to snap an image and probably not the last for my Sunset Sunday Series.
Thankfully when I got to the dock I captured the majesty of the moment not just with my eyes (and lens) but also allowing me time to sit and reflect on my time exploring the Finger Lakes of New York.
On an adventure filed four day trip highlighted with so many unique activities and plenty of reasons to sing or say “I love New York” it was so refreshing to return to one of the moments always available in the Finger Lakes, in all of New York, and everywhere else in the world –the sunset. Happy Sunset Sunday.
Stay adventurous, Craig
