Well, depending on who is on your list, here are six inspiring books to consider this season.

  1. The 2025 Farmer’s Almanac

2025_ALMANAC_COVERI was always curious on how Almanacs make such accurate weather predictions, especially when it seems in modern days our weatherman (or women) cannot predict tomorrow’s precipitation with too much certainty.  These books date back to Benjamin Franklin and served as essentially the Bible for many farmer in our country’s early days. It still provides valuable insights for many today – including gardeners and travelers.

Curious? well definitely listen in to my upcoming Staying Adventurous Podcast on the 2024 Holiday Gift Guide when I interview only the 14th editor, Carol Connare. Our conversation was certainly a unique experience as we discuss weather patterns, sun and moon cycles and what else the Almanac offers to its loyal readership.

Ready to return to using earth’s cycles and working with Mother Nature – the Old Farmer’s Almanac is a great way to begin that journey? Find your copy online with the Old Farmer’s Almanac Shop.

A Walking the Park Book Cover

A walk in the park is usually a phrase for a simple adventure, nothing too strenuous. But, what if that park was the Grand Canyon and what if you decided to walk the entire park? Different story, and one captured by author Kevin Fedarko in A Walk in the Park: The True Story of a Spectacular Misadventure in the Grand Canyon.

Recently, I had the pleasure of interviewing the author, (you can expect it as an upcoming podcast), and he shared the stories, challenges, misadventures, and beauty abound when traversing the entirety of the massive Grand Canyon through the four seasons too.  It took over a year.

A future trip in April of 2025 will lead me back to the edge of the canyon for the first time in 30 years and I will marvel at his stories along with the natural beauty too.
