I’m not sure at which New York event I first met Alex, but our paths cross often in the city. Since Alex runs photography tours I frequently find myself discussing sunset images from around the globe with him. And after our last discussion at an ATA (Africa Travel Association) event we discussed Morocco and Moroccan sunsets. Thankfully, Alex decided to share a moment with the Sunset Sunday series.
Scouting in southeastern Morocco, close to the Algerian border, in and around the massive golden dune of Erg Chebbi in the Sahara Desert we planned to set up for the night. Some friends had come along for that part of the journey and after several hours of exploring with 4x4s, camels took us all to the highest point in the dunes for a breathtaking sunset. Later, continuing on to the to our private desert camp where we would spend the night I caught a glimpse of our camel driver headed back up the dunes as the last rays of light grazed the horizon. The silhouettes were too perfect to ignore. While local Berber musicians played away at camp, I ran up the dune to capture more of the magic on Morocco. It’s moments like this one why I consider Morocco one of my favorite places to visit.
