Sunset Sunday-The Mayan Sunset at Xcaret

I visited Xcaret for the first time and spent the entire day inside the park.  I originally expected Xcaret to be a Mayan focused theme park, a Mayan Disneyland per se, but it was more, much more. I toured the park and experienced up-close wildlife encounters, Mexican cultural exhibits, an amazing wine cellar (showcasing Mexican wines), beach and water activities (you will get wet) cenote altars, actual ruins, and of course a Mayan village.

But when the sun started to set, I decided to capture the splendor from atop the stadium style seats of the reconstructed Mayan Ball Court.This sunset was not captured purely for the beauty of the moment or the even to discuss the park itself, but it also carried symbolism. My preconceived notions of Xcaret also set. The park was more than a Mayan adventure; it was Mexican magic.

Travel Tip:

When visiting Xcaret Park, you must stay until after sunset because every night Xcaret Park puts on “the Mexican Spectacular” or Xcaret Mexico Espectacular. It is a experience not to be missed. The spectacular  showcases the history, culture, song and dance of Mexico and evokes emotion inside everyone (not just Mexicans) who watches the show. I know I just didn’t watch it, but felt the show too.
