Sunset Sunday-The Knossos Palace Sunset, Crete, Greece

Knossos Palace, a place of mystery and mythology dates back to before 1700 BC.  The palace believed to be the head of Minoans is regarded by some scholars as the seat of Atlantis and also as the home of the legendary labyrinth lurking Minotaur.

The sun beams added to its ancient feel

Knossos palace was never meant to be the subject of a Sunset Sunday post. Yet, near the end the walk through the grounds just before closing at 7pm,  I noticed sun beams. A cluster of light burst through from one side of a taller remaining ruin.  I stopped and paused. I took a deep breath and recharged.  I focused my camera and snapped the image to freeze it in time.

The moment reminded me that although the sun has set on many great civilizations, including the Minoans of Crete, it is through visits to places like Knossos Palace, we still can learn and appreciate what accomplishments these great civilizations gave to humanity.

Happy Sunset Sunday

Stay adventurous, Craig
