Episode 13: Chiapas, Mexico’s Adventurous Frontier

In this episode we return to Mexico and explore its frontier – Chiapas.

Sure, we often here about America’s Frontier – Alaska, but other countries have frontiers just the same, and for Mexico, that is the lesser-known and adventurous state of Chiapas on its southern border with Guatemala.

Chiapas, a heaven for eco-adventure tourism also hosted the 2015 ATMEX (Adventure Travel Mexico) conference and with an invite, I attended and also explored Chiapas.

In this staying adventurous episode, I interview a local tour operator from EcoExperencias, a guide before heading into Mayan Ruins and then a fellow adventurer, blogger and ATMEX speaker – Runaway Juno.

You will discover the “what to see” and “where to go,” as you learn the best things to do in Chiapas. Explore the Mayan Ruins of Bonampak and Palenque; take adventures both in and on the water by rafting and jumping waterfalls at Rio Lancaja and then visiting the cascading waterfalls of Roberto Barrios. Also learn about other places like Sumidero Canyon, San Cristobal de las Casas and Aquas Azul.

Chiapas is a place I learned about ten years earlier when working in Mexico City and now I have my own experiences to share. I spent a week, not nearly long enough, to truly immerse, but I suspect I’ll be back and not wait ten years to do it.
