For many Mexico is country consisting on three main beach destinations; Los Cabos, the Riviera Maya and Cancun, and Puerto Vallarta. Yet, the country consists of so much more including many relatively “unknown” beach destinations too. Some even access the same airports as those “big 3.”
If you follow along, you know I’ve make mention of the Riviera Nayarit often, especially with breath-taking sunsets through the years on my Sunset Sunday Series. What you may not know is how close and accessible these beaches are from the Puerto Vallarta airport. This safe, beautiful and luxurious destination awaits anyone who travels there.
Beach Thursday Returns to Riviera Nayarit
You also may have also noticed a few beaches in the Riviera Nayarit, a Mexican beach destination at the same latitude as Hawaii, inside the winter Beach Thursday series. In the prior years the series included Sayulita, San Francisco and San Blas and now today, to start the 2017 winter season it returns to visit another beautiful stretch of beach and highlights – Punta Mita.
Luxury Rentals and Hotels in Punta Mita
Largely known for its luxury Mexico Beach Rentals and luxury hotels, this region offers a chance to experience excellent cuisine, championship golf courses (including the iconic island green par 3 – tail of the whale) along with its pristine and picturesque beaches.
On my travels through Punta Mita, I’ve spent time walking, exploring and “testing” the beaches by the resorts the Four Seasons Punta Mita and the St Regis Punta Mita not to mention the sunsets there as well.
On different day, I traveled a little further north, up the coast to find the luxury resorts of La Tranquila and also Imanta too. Also along the coast you’ll also discover multitude of residential options available for rentals and also purchases.
Punta Mita Local Beach
And although Punta Mita seems exclusive for luxury, other options do exist with a local beach best for some palapas-style afternoons. Imbibe in some surf, cervezas (Pacifico on the Pacific Coast) and an order(s) of fish tacos.
So the beaches of the Riviera Nayarit on the Bay of Banderas do give you a reason to see more of Mexico. As you can (and will) see, these beaches are some of the best in all of Mexico, so take a Riviera Nayarit beach road trip.
Travel tip
I mentioned the golf and identified the iconic par 3, but let me also mention an iconic dish, a must eat from the region. Travelers may not make the journey inside the state of Nayarit to explore the island of Mexcaltitan, the “birthplace” of Zarandeado, but that doesn’t mean you can’t find it on the menu elsewhere.
The grilled fish over flavorful mesquite wood will probably appear on multiple menus at the top-end restaurants in town, but don’t let your search begin and end there, find a local place and give it a try too. I know I did and I am still discussing the meal, the experience, and the memory. It is Culture through Cuisine in the Riviera Nayarit make sure you give it a taste.
Stay adventurous, Craig
