My father had only been gone for a few months when my children and I took a vacation to Myrtle Beach, SC. It was a vacation destination that held many memories for me because my mother used to take me there every summer when I was young. Although we weren’t really looking forward to leaving home because it held many of my father’s memories, we knew that we needed a short break.
While we were in Myrtle Beach, we spent a lot of time doing activities together, many that were outdoors. As we would sit on the balcony each evening, we watched the large planes as they departed from the airport near the hotel and as they made their way over the ocean to land. The sunsets were beautiful in the evenings, but one evening, in particular, stands out.

We were walking on the beach and waiting for the fireworks to begin as the city had a display each Wednesday during the summer. As we strolled along the beach, we happened to look out over the ocean to see a small boat as the sun was going down. It was at that moment that we also heard one of my father’s favorite songs playing on someone’s radio. It was a moment that we will remember for many years to come and one of my fondest memories on one of the best beaches of South Carolina.
